Hanze and RUG students bring in medal haul at European Student Judo Championships

The judokas from Hanze and the University of Groningen performed excellently during the European Universities Combat Sports Championships in Tirana. The eight Groningen students won a total of five medals in the Albanian capital: two gold, one silver, and two bronze.

Berber Ludema was the star attraction of the Groningen student delegation. Individually, she won the European student title in the under 78 kilogram class. But that was not all, as Ludema also took gold with the mixed team competing under the banner of the University of Groningen.

Silver and bronze

Steyn Oldenhof also took to the podium. He won silver in the over 100 kilogram class. Leon Fransens secured bronze in the under 100 kilogram class, while Yaël Schipper also took a bronze medal in the under 70 kilogram class.

Gold with the mixed team

The success of the mixed team meant that Eva Hangyi, Robin Hoekstra, Vera Raspe, and Mika van Sinderen also returned home with a gold medal.

With a total of five medals, the students from Hanze and RUG can look back on a particularly successful European student championship in Tirana.
